I’m going to go ahead and apologize for introducing you to these super simple yet super snackable little acorn cookies. I made first them for the Creature from the Woods launch party, and I had a few people come up and tell me they just couldn’t stop eating them! These are a perfect little snack for kids, parties, and general snacking.
I especially love how they remind me of the snack the baby racoon munches in the book. It takes me back to all of the treats in books and movies I spent my entire childhood wishing I could try. (Anyone who grew up watching The Aristocats remembers Roquefort’s cracker dipped in Crème de la Crème à la Edgar!)
You will need:
Nilla Wafer cookies
Chocolate Kisses
Miniature chocolate chips
Instructions:
- Melt a small handful of the mini chocolate chips using a double boiler or microwave.
- Use a toothpick to scoop a bit of the melted chocolate and spread it on the bottom of a chocolate Kiss. Press the Kiss onto the flat side of a Nilla Wafer cookie.
- Repeat with a mini chocolate chip: use a toothpick to apply a small dab of melted chocolate to the bottom, then press onto the round side of the cookie.
- Let cool for several seconds, then repeat to make a bowl full of acorn-shaped cookies.

Like I said, these are so simple. It’s rare to find a snack that’s so cute, so tasty, and so easy to make! This is definitely something you can make with kids who are practicing food prep and motor control. It would be great as a part of a woodland unit for preschoolers and early elementary students! (And—shameless plug—Creature from the Woods makes great companion reading material!)
However you decide to use these little cookies, I hope this recipe inspires your creativity!
Creature from the Woods
